"Good Fences Make Good Neighbors”: Why Can’t We Think of an Extra Mile?

The renowned English poet Robert Frost wrote his well-known poem ‘Mending Wall’, which explores themes of boundaries, human relationships, interactions and tradition. The poem begins with a conversation between two neighbors who meet each other while repairing the stone wall which goes through their properties. They both understand that the stone walls are not truly necessary, but somehow, they feel compelled to maintain them. As the friendly discussion continues, the speaker ultimately becomes aware that it is not essential to have a stone wall between their properties. Instead, it is always better to have some form of boundary in order to maintain good relationships and appropriate distance between neighbors.
